Faithlin Hunter

Faithlin has always had a deep affinity for music; she began playing the violin at age nine and has been playing for 13 years. This passion for music continued to grow into a love of the art. Faithlin was inspired by all music, which ultimately led her to pursue her passions at the collegiate level. At Washington College, she is a rising senior studying as a double major in music and mathematics with a dance minor. Through her time at WC, she has dabbled outside of her classical and pop music comfort zone, experiencing music through the lens of an aspiring musicologist. While at college, she has picked up playing piano, ukulele, and the Japanese koto. Having previously worked on the Hip Hop Time Capsule, Faithlin wants to continue to build connections between music and how it influences communities throughout history. Her post-undergraduate plan is to pursue a doctoral degree in musicology, with current interests in Hip Hop, feminist musicology, and the overall cultural connection that music creates.

Notes of Honey

Sweet like sugar, but almost sickeningly so,

Watch yourself or she might just take hold.

With melodies that sound so captivating,

She’ll serenade you through voice or string.

Just beware of the days when it isn’t sunny,

Perhaps you’ll get stung, but as always,

With love, Notes of Honey.

There is a rawness–a realness–that comes from starting anew and finding the sweetness in the intricacies of life. I like to think of myself as a little bit sweet, but with a rich history that can even contain a bite. While Jade the Dragon emerged on the scene with a fierceness, Notes of Honey is my take on my more delicate side, though that does not mean I can’t bring the sting. Notes of Honey also plays the double entendre of notes relating to my musical background. All together, Notes of Honey signifies a rebirth of the fierce dragon that initially gave me a voice, but now allows me to add a hint of sweetness.
