Ariel Purnell
I’m from Chestertown and I attend Kent County High School and I am in 12th grade. I would like to be a school counselor for middle school & high school students. I would like to attend Bowie State and get my Bachelors degree and become a school counselor . I would say my mom is my musical inspiration because she was the first person to put me on to different types of music . I want to learn about the good and old side of Chestertown and Kent County itself , there is so much history in the town that nobody knows about . So many different events that have happened all over Kent County . Seeing another side of Kent County would be amazing and being able to tell my kids about all the different good things that our people did to try to change this town .
Black Mermaid
The black mermaid represents a black girl in a small town trying to find out her small town , trying to figure out why this and that has happened here. The name black mermaid comes from the new movie Ariel and now the main character is a black mermaid . I selected the name the black mermaid because just like Ariel , I want to discover the world just like her , or discover my small town , trying to discover why so many events happen here and why so many came here . People from Mexico and other places came here and tried to escape because they were kidnapped from other places and brought here . I like it because my whole life I have been called the Little Mermaid by so many teachers and friends & family that I have gotten used to it . To the point when people asked how to pronounce my name I would say “ it's just like the little mermaid name Ariel “ . The highlight of my name is showing that I do whatever I need to do to get what I want , no matter what it takes or how many problems I have to get through , I will still try and try , and not give up.
