Faithlin Hunter

As a Music major at Washington College, Faithlin is excited to expand her musical knowledge, appreciation, and tastes. Through the Chesapeake Heartland’s Hip Hop Time Capsule, she immerses herself into the rich history of hip hop that started with artists such as DJ Kool Herc and 9th Wonder. Alongside hip hop, Faithlin researches and explores prominent local historical figures from Kent County that bring new views to African American history. She is inspired by all of the names and voices that have gone unheard of in African American history conversations and hopes to shed her newfound knowledge to those around her so that the community can know these important names too. With hip hop, Faithlin looks forward to finding out what makes the art form so powerful while also contributing her own musical experiences. Music of all genres allows for us to speak truths and stories that are sometimes too complex to simply state.

Jade the Dragon

In many ways, Jade the Dragon embodies my past, my history, and my heritage while also personifying someone I want to be. There is a fierceness to the name: “Jade” reminds me of the necklace my mom wore every day, and “Dragon” reminds me of my middle name Mulan. All together, Jade the Dragon characterizes my inner strength as a warrior.
