Isaac Mason was born into slavery in Kent County in 1822. Before his escape in 1847, Mason was enslaved at the Mansfield House in Chestertown, now the headquarters of the Kent Cultural Alliance. In 1893, Mason published his slave narrative where he tells of his early life enslaved in Kent County and Chestertown.

This artwork is a cover page and excerpts from Isaac Mason's narrative that were redesigned and reformatted though still referencing late 19th century graphic design and book formatting.
