The 1799 pamphlet found with the attic papers, "To Our Fellow Citizens of the United States of America," was published by a Quaker group in Philadelphia. “No person can retain his right of membership with us who buys, sells, or holds slaves,” it states, calling upon other Americans to “unite … in this good cause.”
