Today, as many state and local governments continue seeking ways to restrict voting in communities of color — such as by limiting voting hours or curbing mail-in ballots — the story of Jones’s activism is freshly relevant. This deed shows how a community was able to come together to overcome the challenges presented to them when their voices were suppressed.
