At first glance, the Worton Point African American Schoolhouse is an old building on a quiet road on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Looking closer, it becomes a window into the history of education opportunities for African Americans, not only in Kent County, but in the United States. Built in 1890, this school was established by members of St. George’s United Methodist Church and served the African American community for nearly 70 years.
