“View of Chestertown from White House Farm,” c. 1795, detail (Washington College)

This image, taken from a larger painting of in Chestertown in the 1790s, depicts African American adults and children harvesting wheat at the height of summer. The identical white clothes that they are wearing are probably similar to the garments issued to enslaved workers that are described in documents from the Commodore Collection. The painting is not part of the collection, but is also held at Washington College.
